Power to Interpret

According to Section 5b(ii), the power to interpret the AAUA SU Constitution is vested in the AAUA Student Judicial Council and no other court in the University has such powers.

Power to Adjudicate

According to section 5b(iii) of the AAUA SU Constitution, The SJC is vested with the power to adjudicate on matters between students, arms of the union , affiliated bodies, any member of the union.

Protection of Civil rights

In accordance to Section 5b(ii) of the AAUA SU Constitution, the SJC has the responsibility of protecting the civil rights and obligations of all Students and affiliated bodies of the Student Union on Campus.

Binding Judgement

According to Section 5b (iv) of the AAUA SU Constitution, "the Judgment of the SJC shall be binding on all members of the union, arms of the union and all parties thereto"

About The Sjc

According to Section 5 (a) of the AAUA SU Constitution “the Judicial power of the union shall be vested in the Students’ Judicial Council hereinafter referred to as the SJC…”

The Student Judicial Council is a creation of Section 5 (a)(b) of the AAUA SU Constitution. The Judicial Powers of the Student Union of Adekunle Ajasin University is vested in the Students’ Judicial Council, hence the Student Judicial Council is the Adjudicatory Body of the Student’s Union. 

According to Section 5b(ii), the Power to interpret the AAUA SU Constitution is vested in the AAUA Student Judicial Council and no other court in the University has such powers. Also, in accordance to Section 5b(ii) of the AAUA SU Constitution, the SJC has the responsibility of protecting the civil rights and obligations of all students and affiliated bodies of the Student Union on campus. According to section 5b(iii) of the AAUA SU Constitution, The SJC is vested with the power to adjudicate on matters between students, arms of the union , affiliated bodies, any member of the union.

Judgement delivered by the SJC is not without weight and it is binding as it is backed by the School Management through the Student’s Affairs division of the school. According to Section 5b (iv) of the AAUA SU Constitution, “the Judgment of the SJC shall be binding on all members of the union, arms of the union and all parties thereto”

Our Jurisdiction

Legal Matters between Arms of the Union

We are clothed with the Jurisdiction to hear matters between arms of the Student Union

Legal Matters Between Students

The Student Judicial Council has the Jurisdiction to hear Civil Jurisdiction between Students in the University.

Legal Matters between any member of the Union

SJC has the Jurisdiction to hear matters between associations, Department, Faculty and every Member of the Union

Pass Judgment that is binding

The Student Judicial Council as the Highest Judicial body on Campus passes Biding Judgment on party(ies) to a Suit brought before it.

Legal Matters between any organization of the Union

Legal issues between organizations under the AAUA SU Umbrella are brought before the court for determination.

Determination of any question as to Civil rights and Obligation

The Court has the Jurisdiction to determine civil rights or wrong in accordance with the AAUA SU Constitution.

Working Process of the Court

How the court works

File a Process

When your right has been violated, you are to contact a Chamber or Student Counsel who files a process in accordance with the rules of Court.

Hear Both Parties

After the process has been filed and served on parties, the court gives a date for hearing and at this point, parties come to court and they are heard by the Court.

Judges Decide

After the counsel has argued their Briefs on behalf of their Clients, the court then decide on the processes filed and the Briefs argued before the court.

Judgment

After the Judges' decision, each Judge will either come up with a Judgment or adopt the reasoning of another Judge of which a Judge is allowed to give a supporting or dissenting Judgment.
